Outer Frequencies: Japan

A playlist of Japanese deep cuts and overlooked gems

This month’s Spotlight playlist grew out of a rabbit hole I’ve been happily stuck in for the past few weeks. After posting a video highlighting a few favorite releases from Guruguru Brain, I ended up getting flooded with recommendations and started digging much deeper into Japanese music across different eras and scenes. Out of that digging came Outer Frequencies: Japan, a playlist that jumps from leftfield city pop and jazz-funk to psychedelic rock, folk, and everything in between. A lot of the featured artists come from completely different worlds, but the playlist still feels surprisingly cohesive to me. It’s been on heavy rotation over here and I hope it sends you down a few rabbit holes of your own.

A quick note about access: this playlist is for paid subscribers only, so please don’t share the private links around. If you’ve got a friend who’d enjoy it, the best way to support is to invite them to subscribe or gift them a subscription. Keeping these playlists exclusive is what allows me to keep doing this.

The playlist is available on Apple Music, Spotify, Tidal, and YouTube (links below). If any of the links give you trouble, just email me at info@outerfrequencies.net and I’ll help sort it out.

Thanks for listening. Hope you enjoy it.
